Our Story

Flour Power has been proudly serving since 2003 and is now under new ownership as of August 2007, which has brought in an expansion of the menu and store hours.  We are proud to offer a variety of healthy food choices and thrive on our great food and delicious desserts.

Owner Cindy Olivarez attended the Texas Culinary Academy and earned a degree in the Le Cordon Bleu Pâtisserie and Baking Program.  Below is Cindy Olivarez’s scholarship essay to the Texas Culinary Institute which demonstrates her motivation for becoming a pastry chef and owner of a café & bakery.

For as long as I can remember I have loved cooking. It started with the experiences I shared with my grandmother, who was my mentor and inspiration. As a little girl I knew I would get to spend time with her cooking in the kitchen. It was there that I learned to experiment with different ingredients. The passion those moments instilled in me is the reason I have applied at the Texas Culinary Academy.

I’ve gone through my life loving to cook and entertaining family and friends.  As an adult I was introduced to “The Pampered Chef”. I was a kitchen consultant for five years and developed many skills to include demonstration techniques, utilizing a wide range of kitchen tools, and providing outstanding customer service. At the time, I was satisfied meeting my personal goals of doing something I really enjoyed and owning my own business.

Later, I took all of the Wilton Cake Decorating Classes to gain cake-decorating skills.  I really enjoyed the classes but was still an amateur and wanted to learn a more structured professional approach. I finally realized that what I truly want is to become a professional pastry chef and start my own business.

There is nothing I want more in this world than to show my grandmother how much she has influenced my life with this new career decision.  Becoming a Pastry Chef and owning my own business will not only honor my grandmother but also show her my appreciation for the gift of her love and time that she shared with me as a child.
